Christ, Our Foundation . . . 1 Cor. 3:11
In 1928 God impressed upon the hearts of faithful men and women to build a church in a small community about 5 miles from Water Valley. A combination of two smaller congregations, Leggo and Big Springs, they first organized a Sunday School and began meeting in the Sylva Rena School building. Preaching services were also held whenever a preacher could be obtained to preach. Sylva Rena Church was constituted on September 7, 1929, with forty-nine original members. Through sacrifice, fundraising efforts, and a $650.00 loan from the Mechanics Savings Bank, construction soon began and was completed in 1932. The original church building consisted of two Sunday School rooms and a sanctuary. Throughout the years, the church has changed. The footprint of the building is vastly different than in those earliest of years. Nonetheless, today's members continue to build upon the sure foundation of Christ as faithful stewards of all with which He has blessed us.
Christ, Our HOPE . . . 1 pETER 1:3-6
True hope is found in Jesus Christ alone. Therefore we seek to proclaim Jesus in everything from Sunday morning worship to small groups to Wednesday evening Bible study. Still, we do not stop there as we strive to live on mission and proclaim Christ each day in every way. You may find us doing simple things such as handing someone a bottle of water, providing a meal for the bereaved, or working with an established missions organization locally and beyond, but the goal is the same. We want to know Jesus and make Him known.
Christ, our glory . . . 1 cOR. 3:17-18
For nearly 100 years we have sought to glory neither in self nor in accomplishments, but in Christ alone. The kingdom is expanding and so is our involvement in ministry and missions. We have much to learn and much to do. Our prayer is that God continues to teach us grace and mercy in order that we may become more gracious and merciful. We want Him to keep changing our hearts to reflect His heart. We long to be used--to be His hands and feet--in our community and in our world. We do not want to stop, give up, or turn back until His Name and glorious salvation are known in every corner of the world. As He answers our prayers, we give Him all glory and praise.
